A British consultancy built around senior practitioners.

Promontory was founded to give complex projects direct access to the people who actually do the work.

01

How the firm began

Promontory was founded by Scott Payne after a career spent administering contracts and resolving claims on major construction, energy and marine projects. The firm exists because clients kept asking for the same thing: experienced people, available directly, without the layers that come with a large organisation.

That founding intention still sets the shape of the practice. Instructions are taken by senior practitioners and stay with them.

02

The thinking behind the firm

Most contractual difficulty is avoidable. It becomes a dispute when the record is thin, notices are late, or the commercial consequence of a technical decision is only understood after the fact. Our work is to close that gap while the project is still running.

When a matter does proceed, the same understanding of the project supports quantum, delay analysis and expert evidence prepared to tribunal standard.

03

A deliberately boutique model

We remain small by choice. A small team of very experienced practitioners can hold the detail of a project in a way a large team cannot, and clients deal with the same people from first meeting to final account.

We work standalone or integrated into existing project teams, in the United Kingdom, Europe, Türkiye and the Gulf.

The contract is a record of what the parties agreed. Most disputes begin when that record stops being kept.
